Where to Stay in Paris

Hostels $ – $$

Hostels are by far my preferred type of accommodation, especially when travelling for longer periods of time.

Hostels can come in many shapes and sizes but generally they are great value for money and give you the chance to meet other like-minded travellers.

Rooms range from multi-bed dorms with shared facilities to twin/double/family rooms with private bathrooms.

Expect a guest kitchen that you can cook meals in, a laundry, a communal area of sorts to hang out with other travellers and helpful staff who know where all the best and cheapest places to eat and drink are.

The biggest misconception with hostels is that they are only for young people and backpackers. But things have change a lot over the last 10 years and hostel are now a haven for cheap, clean and comfortable accommodation for all ages.

Over the years, I’ve stayed in hostels that are fancier than some hotels. Spacious rooms, comfy bedding and lots of free facilities make them a very attractive offering.

No more should you discount this option as viable just because you don’t fit into the hostel stereotype.

Here are three hostels for a cheap stay in Paris that will make it easy for nearby exploring during the day and night.

Beau M Paris

18th Arrondissement (Montmartre)

Where to Stay in Paris - The Trusted Traveller

Located in the heart of the Montmartre district, Beau M Paris is an easy walk to not one, but five Metro stops, making this a great place to stay if you plan to explore as much of Paris as possible.

Rooms range from female and mixed dorms with shared facilities, right up to private double rooms with private bathrooms which are more like hotel rooms. The whole place is newly renovated and very modern and each room has air conditioning.

Onsite you’ll have access to free wi-fi throughout the property, shared lounge, dining and kitchen space and included breakfast each morning of your stay.

The People – Paris Marais

4th Arrondissement (Marais)

Where to Stay in Paris - The Trusted Traveller

One of the best located hostels in Paris, The People is one of many in this chain of hostels across Paris, each with their own unique personality while still been modern.

You can walk to many of Paris’ most famous sights from this hostel and their is a Metro stop just metres from the front door, making it ideal for getting around Paris.

Rooms come in female and mixed dorms with shared or private bathrooms and private double or twin rooms with private bathrooms, some with a nice Paris city view.

Breakfast is available each morning for a small fee i the onsite restaurant and bar. You’ll also have access to free wi-fi, shared lounge and terrace, communal kitchen and the have regular karaoke nights.

JO&JOE Paris – Nation

20th Arrondissement (Belleville)

Where to Stay in Paris - The Trusted Traveller

With three Metro stops less than a few minutes walk away, plus an abundance of popular restaurants right at the doorstep, JO&JOE Nation is a great choice for a base while exploring Paris.

The best feature of this hostel is the rooftop bar which boasts lovely Paris rooftop views which you can enjoy while sipping one of the many cocktails they have on offer. They also host regular live entertainment events which are very popular.

Bike hire is available at the hostel and breakfast available for a small fee at the onsite restaurant. You’ll also have free wi-fi and plenty of communal space for relaxing after a day of exploring.

They have available female and mixed dorms with access to shared bathrooms, as well at private rooms with private bathrooms. All rooms are soundproofed so any noise from the onsite entertainment is blocked out.

Budget Hotels/Motels $ – $$

Budget hotels and motels are quite similar to hostels except you’re not likely to interact with other guests and you are unlikely to have shared facilities like a kitchen and communal living space to enjoy.

They might however have shared or private bathrooms and rooms themselves will be basic with a minimum of a single, twin or double bed.

Budget hotels and motels are most likely to be kitted out with a small TV, kettle and mini-fridge. And rooms with bathrooms will have a basin, toilet and shower, sometimes over a bathtub, with generic toiletries.

Here are three budget hotels/motels in Paris for those wanting to save a bit on accommodation costs for their trip.
