Where to Stay on the Great Ocean Road

It’s a daunting task sifting through all the places you could stay on the Great Ocean Road trying to find that one place that will meet all your needs and expectations. And knowing which accommodation type is best suited to your needs, budget and level of comfort is important to ensure you not only relax and enjoy your holiday, but also get the best value for money.

Where to Stay in Torquay

Located right at the start of the Great Ocean Road and less than one and a half hours drive from Melbourne, the surfing town of Torquay is a great place to start your Great Ocean Road Adventure. It is a sleepy town with relaxed accommodation all very well located right near the beach.

Here are my three picks for budget, moderate and luxury accommodation in Torquay.

Located just 400m from the beach, this cosy motel offers onsite restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor seating, lots of free parking, children’s playground, free wi-fi and all rooms are fully air conditioned.

This is my favourite place to stay when in Torquay. Located beachfront at Zeally Bay with spectacular ocean views and access to the patrolled surf beach just a few minutes walk away. The resort features a huge outdoor resort style swimming pool, indoor heated lap poo, BBQ area, fitness centre, tennis court and kids playground. Rooms are a comfortable as they get and very generously sized with all having there own balcony or patio to enjoy.

Where to Stay in Lorne

Sleepy Lorne is just another 30 minutes drive on from Torquay and is located just past the official start of the Great Ocean Road. This makes it a great first night stop to split up the trip. It has great restaurants for the night time too.

Where to Stay in Apollo Bay

Located at the mid-way point of the Great Ocean Road, Apollo bay is one of the bigger towns in the region and offers a whole range of accommodation options to suit everyone. It is also a great place to split up the drive  and stock up on supplies.

Where to Stay in Port Campbell

Located near the official end of the Great Ocean Road, Port Campbell is the perfect place to stay because of its close proximity to the majority of the big attractions you’ll not want to miss on the Great Ocean Road.

NRMA Port Campbell Holiday Park – $-$$

Address: 30 Morris St, Port Campbell

I love this place! Their self contained studio cabins are perfect for a nights stop over, I have stayed in them for a week and found them very comfortable. Close walk to the beach and river with lots of onsite amenities including a great BBQ area for evening meals.
