We’ve travelled to many different regions of the world, most of which have wow’ed us in some way or another. Some for their beauty, others for their charm, people, food or culture.
But there’s one region in particular that stands out above most of the rest. And it just so happens to be right in our own backyard and it took us nearly 30 years to discover.
I’m talking about the beautiful Shoalhaven on the NSW South Coast of Australia.
The Shoalhaven region stretches along the coast from Shoalhaven Heads all the way south to Bawley Point and west into the Kangaroo Valley. It includes larger towns like Nowra and Ulladulla as well as the quaint villages of Berry and Kangaroo Valley. And then there are the coastal towns and smaller regions that make up the area.
Jervis Bay is the absolute highlight of the region with an abundance of incredible wildlife, walking tracks, white sandy beaches and just generally beautiful scenery.
The sleepy waterfront towns of Greenwell Point, Sussex Inlet and Shoalhaven Heads are perfect for a quiet off season getaway and are popular with those who like to fish.
And for some seriously beautiful beaches, head to the south of the region to places like Mollymook or Pretty and Pebbly Beaches.
The Shoalhaven ticks all the boxes for us, incredible beauty, charming little towns, friendly people, good fresh food and a relaxed culture that is easy to slip into yourself.
We’ve put together these photos of Shoalhaven to prove to you that it is heaven on earth and to convince you that it’s a region of Australia that shouldn’t be missed.
