In this interview series called What Inspires….. I aim to share with you what inspires other travellers to get out there and see the world in the hope that it inspires you to do the same.
This weeks What Inspires interview is with Kim at She Loves to Travel. Don’t you just love the name of her blog?!
Kim has lived all over, from Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky, New Jersey, Wisconsin and California, she finds she is happiest when she is moving and on the road to a new adventure.
Having majored in Journalism at Western Kentucky University, Kim now hopes to get a second degree in Art History after her travel through Europe helped her gain an appreciation for Art. She hopes to use a degree in Art History as a means to be able to work in another country, whether it be in an art gallery or museum, because being able to experience another culture, another country is something she loves.
Traveling to other countries and wanting to share those experiences with other people is how She Loves to Travel, her blog, came to life. It has been something Kim has loved creating and continues to love writing and sharing her experiences with other people.

What or who inspired you to travel and discover the world?
When I was in college, I became fascinated with Ireland. All I wanted to do was see the Emerald Isle and years later I finally planned the trip I wanted to take when I was in college. I finally got to see Ireland.
Where was your first overseas trip and was it everything you expected it to be?
My first overseas trip was to Ireland and it was everything I expected that it would be and so much more. From seeing different shades of green from a plane as I was landing into Dublin to meeting the friendly people of Ireland, it became one country I fell in love with if you can fall in love with a place. I loved everything about it; I loved the narrow roads, the castle ruins that would be in the middle of a village such as the ruins in Roscommon to seeing the Cliffs of Moher, the Giants Causeway and even kissing the Blarney Stone. The country was magical.
What’s one tip you can give to anyone about to head off on their first overseas adventure?
Plan where you will be sleeping the first couple of days and then remember you don’t have to be on a schedule. Realize you don’t have to see everything on your first visit. You can always go back to that country again if you feel you didn’t see everything on your first trip there. Take your time to enjoy the places you will be visiting and be spontaneous. You can always change your mind if you decide you don’t want to stay in one place the entire time. You can change your mind and see something else. That is the great thing about being spontaneous on a trip. You can see what you want to see, when you want to see it. You are on no one’s time but your own.
Best travel experience so far?
I was supposed to backpack through Europe with a friend but she backed out of the trip at the last minute. That didn’t stop me from taking the leap and going on the trip by myself. I ended up backpacking through Europe for three months and that was the best decision I ever made. I learned so much about myself. I am shy by nature and this trip helped me step out of my comfort zone and force me to talk to other people. I found my own voice and met so many people, some of whom I travelled with to different cities and others I hung out with while we were in the same city.
What’s your biggest source of travel inspiration between trips?
I would say looking through all the travel blogs and sites online to see where I would like to travel next. I love planning for each trip I want to take because planning is part of the fun of travel.
Do you have a favourite quote, travel related or otherwise?
These are my favourite quotes.

“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move”. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
